Fans of the underwater dystopia series ‘BioShock’ have recently received a pleasant surprise with the surprise leak of an image that is believed to be from the upcoming fourth installment of the series. The image, unearthed by MP1ST, reportedly originated from a 2K visual effects artist's demo reel.
And while the screenshot reveals very little of significance, it does offer some interesting clues. The first-person perspective shows a character looking up at a towering, retro-futuristic structure topped with a glowing orb. This is in alignment with rumors of a 1960s Antarctic setting, with the orb perhaps referencing Rapture's iconic lighthouse.
The image also displays "Parkside", the alleged codename for ‘BioShock 4’. Said has been reported in the past by many outlets, like Jason Schreier and Colin Moriarty, which lends credence to the authenticity of the leak. Besides that, details like the UI and weapon selection hint at possible gameplay mechanics. However, since the leak is from a very early build, those details are mostly likely to change.
Nonetheless, despite the lack of specifics, the leak has generated excitement as a possible return to a familiar BioShock aesthetic and the potential for a new, icy world has fans eager for more information. With 2K staying tight-lipped, however, it seems this glimpse may have to tide us over for now.
