On May 15, Ubisoft halted the development of Tom Clancy's The Division Heartland, announced in 2021, to reallocate resources to other games for the 2024-2025 financial year.
The game had been under development including several beta testing periods to give players time to check out the new game. However, since the last closed beta last summer, no updates were made regarding the game’s progress. However, we finally got our answer last week.
Following Ubisoft’s recent hurdles and plans of restructuring and streamlining projects, the company’s focus and workforce shifted onto their more popular upcoming projects; Assassin’s Creed Shadows, XDefiant and Rainbow Six. This decision seems fruitful as XDefiant is already smashing sales and predicted numbers and the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows garnering quite a number of wishlist and moreover, lots of controversy.
Due to recruitment freezes, restructurings, and other organizational changes, Ubisoft reduced outgoing costs by €150 million ($163 million) during the 2023-2024 financial year, bringing operating costs to €1.6 billion ($1.74 billion). The company’s headcount is now 19,011, with 1,700 employees having left over the past 18 months.
On the brightside, Ubisoft will commit to the other remaining titles to be released in the fiscal year of 2024-2025, notably Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the possible hint towards the making of Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence.
The fate of The Division Heartland however remains unknown and only further announcements can confirm the state of the project as we gamers can hope for it to not disappear like plenty other titles in this era.
