The game has been announced by Ubisoft Montreal, in collaboration with co-development studios in Paris, Pune, Bucharest, and Toronto. This venture seeks to honor the original while infusing it with contemporary elements, effectively resurrecting one of Ubisoft's most famous game franchises.
Heading the charge are game director Michale McIntyre and Creative Director Bio Jade Adam Granger, behind this monumental project. McIntyre expressed, "We are now in full production, which means that we have built a small version of the game that allowed us to validate many of our ambitions with the remake." With the pre-production phase already completed, the slated release year of 2026 appears well within reach.
The remake aims to preserve the essence of the original while modernizing and enriching the gaming experience; this includes significant improvements to combat mechanics to align with current gaming standards, addressing concerns about outdated gameplay of the 2003 original in comparison to titles like God of War and Dark Souls.
