After announcing changes for the 2025 League of Legends season, Riot revealed the creation of the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) for the Asia Pacific region. This new league will showcase talent from Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao, Japan, Oceania, and the rest of Southeast Asia on the international stage.
While this is exciting news, there is also disappointment as Bangladesh is not included in the list of eligible countries for the LCP. Despite this, it's understandable why Riot made this decision, as Bangladesh doesn't have a large League of Legends following, and its esports scene is quite niche.
The previous regional leagues, such as the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS), Pacific Championship Series (PCS), and League of Legends Japan League (LJL), will continue to operate domestically to qualify for the LCP.
Riot Games stated in a news release, "By establishing a connection between the LCP and the domestic leagues, we aim to showcase talent and support the aspirations of teams and players across the region. In the future, we plan to expand access to the LCP by extending the ecosystem beyond the existing domestic leagues, ensuring diverse and dynamic competition.”
Riot has also made some changes to the 2025 season calendar as a new international event is set to take place before the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) in the first quarter of the year.
The number of qualifications to global tournaments will increase throughout the year for LCP teams. One team will qualify for the first event, two for MSI, and three teams from the LCP region will qualify for the League of Legends World Championship in hopes of bringing glory to the Asia Pacific Region.
