On August 19, Hong Kong police raided a Pokemon TCG shop that allegedly contained 16 kilograms of narcotics, namely methamphetamine (meth) in the designated "staff-only area."

As per South China Morning Post , the Pokemon Card Shop was a 400-square-foot upstairs store in the Hung Hom district, and it was a popular spot for teenagers, children, and other enthusiasts. It would host tournaments, and trading excursions, with groups of young people frequenting the beloved TCG together.

After an extensive investigation, though, the HK police searched a 28-year-old man outside the shop and found 5 kilograms of crystal meth on him. Upon searching the premises, they found the additional 16 kilograms, and the total 21 kilograms of drugs were worth over 10 million Hong Kong Dollar or 1.3 million USD.

Inspector Liong Chun-hin assured the public that no children or teenagers were involved in the drug trafficking operation and that none had been given drugs. However, he condemned the actions, stating that “storing such a large quantity of narcotics in a place frequented by teenagers and children is irresponsible and disgraceful behaviour that also increases the risk of accidental exposure to illegal drugs.”

The inspector also explained that the upstairs Pokemon TCG store had been operating as a storage unit for more than a month before the police had pinned down its location.
