Playstation Heats Up: A look at the May State of Play

Sony’s recent state of play, held on May 30, delivered 30 minutes full of exciting news and updates for Playstation fans. The showcase focused on upcoming titles for both PSVR2 and PS5, offering a glimpse into the future of the platform, with new looks at ‘Marvel Rivals’ and ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’, release dates for ‘Concord’ and ‘Silent Hill 2 Remake’, as well as a show stealing reveal for a new ‘Astro Bot’ adventure.

Here are some of the key highlights from the showcase:

  • 'God of War Ragnarok,' Santa Monica’s 2022 action masterpiece, will be playable on PC for the first time on September 19, 2024.

  • ‘Path of Exile 2’, the highly anticipated sequel to ‘Path of Exile’ will finally be coming to PS5, complete with couch co-op and cross-play functionality.

  • ‘Where Winds Meet’ is an open world martial arts action adventure that promises stunning visuals and superhuman abilities on PS5.

  • ‘Skydance’s Behemoth’, a PS VR2 title that will be released in Fall 2024, will offer a thrilling monster-hunting experience on VR.

  • ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ had new gameplay details revealed, further amping up the anticipation for the long awaited title.

  • The beloved Playstation mascot, ‘Astro Bot’, returns to the next generation with another adventure up its sleeve.

  • ‘Marvel Rivals’, a superhero focused team-based PvP shooter that stars superheroes from Marvel Comics will be coming to next generation consoles, PC and MacOS this year.

  • ‘Ballad of Antara’ is a brand new IP developed by Tipworks Studio. The studio heads stated in the Playstation blog that the game will be free to play and is striving to achieve “highest fidelity”, with it set to release sometime next year.

  • ‘Dynasty Warriors Origins’, Omega Force’s hack-and-slash video game franchise will be coming back, depicting the chaos of the three kingdoms for the first time in franchise history.

  • ‘Silent Hill 2 Remake’, Konami’s highly anticipated project, will be arriving on PC and PS5 on October 8, 2024.

Overall, the May showcase delivered a decent showing for Playstation, showcasing a diverse lineup of upcoming titles designed to keep players engaged throughout the rest of the year and beyond. With a mix of established franchises and fresh new experiences, it seems that the future of Playstation looks bright.
