In an exciting new blend of the digital and physical worlds, Ikea is hiring 10 Roblox players to work at its new virtual store, offering real jobs with real pay!
Announced in a press release on Monday, Ikea will launch “The Co-Worker Game,” a virtual recreation of its store on Roblox, on June 24. Applications for the workers opened earlier this week and will remain open until June 16.
The virtual store aims to demonstrate the variety of jobs Ikea offers through several in-game tasks inspired by real-life positions. Successful applicants will be able to "flex their skills, help customers, and get promoted to move departments, just like in the real world,” the press release said.
“We’re excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently, bringing our unique career philosophy to life,” said Darren Taylor, Ikea UK and Ireland’s Country People and Culture Manager.
“At Ikea, there is no set route to career progression,” Taylor continued. “Our co-workers can change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world.”
The rest of the Roblox community will also be able to experience the virtual store, including serving virtual meatballs in the Swedish Food Market or organizing showrooms with Ikea products.
To apply for a paid position, applicants must be over 18, live in the UK or Ireland, and submit a questionnaire, CV, and optionally a video. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed virtually between June 14 and 18. The 10 hired workers will be paid £13.15 ($16.48 USD) per hour, the standard rate for Ikea workers in London.
So, after 10,000 hours of playtime on Roblox, you can finally get paid! Are you ready to turn your virtual skills into real cash?
