Having racked up an immensely impressive resume throughout his life, Professor Muhammad Yunus, the current Chief Advisor to Bangladesh's interim government, has been a beacon of hope for the countrymen ever since he came to power. But what many might be unaware of is his involvement in the realm of electronic sports.
The father of social business has been an active advocate of gaming and Esports. Most notably, in 2022, Prof. Yunus’ social enterprise “Yunus Sports Hub” entered into a partnership with The Global Esports Federation, a central convener of the world's Esports community. The collaboration was formed as the Esports for Development (E4D) movement, which was primarily geared towards accelerating the global Esports community’s contribution to UN SDGs.
"We have to shun our old thinking processes, which have created extreme poverty, massive unemployment, and the climate crisis,” said Professor Yunus. “Young people, with the support of today's technology, have the power to create a new civilization. When used in the right manner, esports can be a unique tool to help young people come together to imagine, promote, and bring this new civilization into a reality.”
With a fresh governing body at our country’s helm, it would not be amiss to say that this is a fantastic time for our local gaming and Esports industry to grow. Should key stakeholders take the initiative, significant progress would likely follow close behind.
