BioWare has dedicated an impressive 200,000 hours to fine-tune its upcoming RPG, Dragon Age: The Veilguard– specifically focusing on the game's PC version.
The development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a long and intricate process, with BioWare emphasizing the importance of getting it right. Creative director John Epler stated that the team wanted to ensure that this installment was the "best version" of Dragon Age possible.
This dedication to quality has resulted in a lengthy development timeline, with some team members working on the game for over five years. Ashley Barlow, the creative performance director, noted that the complexity of the project, including the recording of 700 characters and 140,000 lines of dialogue, has significantly contributed to the time investment.
BioWare's commitment to the PC version is particularly noteworthy. The studio reported that 40% of its testing efforts were dedicated to optimizing the game for PC, which included performance and compatibility testing. This approach aims to avoid the pitfalls that have plagued other recent AAA titles at launch. The testing encompassed a variety of features, including customizable controls, advanced display options, and support for modern gaming peripherals like the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller and various keyboard and mouse setups.
The extensive testing has also allowed BioWare to implement features such as assigning custom keybinds for different classes, uncapped frame rates, field of view sliders, multiple ray tracing options, including an "Ultra RT" mode, and full support for 21:9 ultra-wide monitors.
